Mary Earps is '100 per cent committed' to Man United

Mary Earps is ‘100 per cent committed’ to Man United despite missing out on summer move to Arsenal, insists boss Marc Skinner

  • Manchester United believe Mary Earps is fully ‘committed’ to the club
  • The England goalkeeper has entered the final year of her existing contract
  • United want Earps to extend her deal amid summer offers from Arsenal

Mary Earps is ‘100 per cent’ committed to Manchester United, according to women’s team manager Marc Skinner, despite the England goalkeeper being wanted by Arsenal.

The Red Devils have already watched women’s star Alessia Russo join the Gunners on a free transfer after she ran down her contract and are refusing to let Earps leave for a rival as things stand.

United have told Arsenal their star shot-stopper isn’t for sale while they continue negotiating a new contract with Earps as she enters the final year of her contract.

The 30-year-old has been key to United’s success in recent seasons and was one of the stars of the Women’s World Cup as she claimed the Golden Glove award for the competition’s best goalkeeper.

However, United manager Skinner explained during a press conference that Earps and the club have a ‘perfect marriage’ ahead of the new Women’s Super League season getting underway next month.

Earps has so far failed to agree a new contract with United as her existing deal enters its final year

‘I’ve known Mary a long time,’ explained Skinner during a press conference.

‘She’s been exceptional for a number of years, so of course we wanted to keep her and build on what we want to do, which is win.

‘Part of the modern game is that we have speculation over top players. Our relationship has been brilliant through this – open conversation and communication, and she’s 100% committed.

‘She wants to win and so do I. We’re aligned in our thinking and our team needs to perform. As long as we want the same thing, then it’s a perfect marriage,’ he added.

United want Earps to sign a new long-term contract and have made it a top priority after activating the option to extend her existing deal by a year.

Ongoing discussions have so far failed to resolve her future at Old Trafford with Arsenal testing the waters with two summer bids for the goalkeeper.

Arsenal’s offers, understood to be higher than the £100,000 record fee for a goalkeeper, were rejected by United as the club continue to insist the England star isn’t for sale.

Earps has remained tight-lipped on her future but has been involved in United’s pre-season preparations ahead of the new WSL campaign getting started.

United will kick-start the new English top-flight season with a trip to Aston Villa.
