Inter Miami have announced Harvey Neville – the son of its former coach and Manchester United legend, Phil – has been sent out on loan.

The 21-year-old Irish Mancunian has struggled for game time this season and will now try his luck with second division team Loudon United FC in the USL Championship.

Neville has not played a minute of football since Lionel Messi arrived at the club and vastly changed its fortunes.

Prior to the acquisition of Messi, Neville had made 13 appearances for the first team, playing a total of 312 minutes.

Perhaps a temporary move away from the club was on the cards prior to new signing Jordi Alba asking for Neville’s No. 18 jersey.

He gave up his No. 18 jersey to Jordi Alba and will play the rest of the season at Loudon United

Despite initial reluctance, as explained by his father on Taylor Twellman’s Offside podcast last week, Neville obliged.

‘About a week ago my son came home – he had taken the No 18 because it was a number I had in my career and Harvey took it,’ Neville Sr. said.

‘He came home and said “dad, Jordi Alba wants my No 18”. I was like “what did you say? I hope you said yes” and he was like “well…” and I almost clipped him round the head!

“‘This is Jordi Alba – give him your number and clean his shirt every day!” I said if I was you I would ask him to sign his first shirt “to Harvey, from Jordi Alba.”‘
