Man Utd ‘destroying Jadon Sancho’s transfer value’ after Saudi Arabia snubbed

Man Utd players' feelings towards Jadon Sancho after latest Erik ten Hag spat

Manchester United have been accused of ‘destroying Jadon Sancho’s transfer value’. The club snubbed an offer from the Saudi Pro League to let Sancho leave this week. The 23-year-old has struggled to make his mark since joining United for £73million from Borussia Dortmund two years ago and might have left this summer.

United had the chance to cash in on the winger this summer after Sancho was linked with a late move to Saudi Arabia before the transfer window closed on Thursday. Erik ten Hag has now been accused of destroying the youngster’s value after the Dutchman said that the player was left out of his squad to face Arsenal due to his lack of effort in training.

Sancho refuted the comments from his boss with a lengthy statement on social media. The public row could result in Sancho’s value dropping considerably when the transfer market re-opens in January.

In a column for the Daily Mirror, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler said: “I don’t know the ins and outs of it, but it seems to have blown up before the transfer window closed. And to me, Manchester United have not really played this properly, with what appears to be quite a bit of briefing against their player.

“If the manager doesn’t fancy him as a player, then fair enough. But these days, you don’t have to make players outcasts to get rid of them. Loyalty is a two way street. If a player signs a contract, clubs expect them to honour it when it suits them, but not if they get rid.

“I think United need to step back and have a look at their handling of the situation. This is a £75m player we’re talking about for one thing, and the club are doing their best to destroy that value, it seems.”

With three years left on his contract at United the winger could struggle to regain a place in Ten Hag’s side with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho both ahead of him on the left-hand side and Antony ahead of him on the right.

Fowler says that the club should be supporting Sancho’s mental health and not openly criticising him.

He added: “This is a human being we are talking about, who deserves to be treated with respect. All this briefing and undermining is not the best way to do that. Now it seems like a situation which can only spiral out of control.

“If Jadon has suffered mental health issues in the past, as I believe Erik ten Hag said in the past, then it’s obvious a club has to be sensitive towards that issue.”
