In 2010, Wesley Sneijder had the world at his feet.
As part of a Jose Mourinho's famous Inter Milan side, Sneijder & co reached the Champions League final having already flexed their domestic muscles. The Scudetto and Coppa Italia had fallen to Inter, now all that was left was European glory.
Inter completed the treble when they felled the might of Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu. However, Sneijder's year wasn't quite complete, and over the summer he led a Dutch resurgence in South Africa.

The Netherlands have never won the World Cup, but they have come close with some of the planets best players. And when Sneijder put on one of the best individual performances of all time against Brazil, the tiny nation started to dream.
It would all come unstuck in the final, as Andres Iniesta smashed the ball past Maarten Stekelenburg in Johannesburg. Sneijder seemed to be the shoe-in for the Ballon d'Or, but it went the way of then-Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
"It was a little unfair that I didn't win the 2010 Ballon d'Or and Messi did," Sneijder, who hung up his boots in 2019 after a spell in Qatar, revealed.
"Although I’m not a guy who will cry about it. The Ballon d’Or is an individual award, and I prefer to win team trophies. But, if I had to choose between the Champions League and the Ballon d'Or, I would choose the Champions League. I am very happy with that title."
The Dutchman added: "We deserved to win in 2010 against Spain, but they were an incredible team and beat us. Reaching the final was a fantastic achievement and one I always dreamed of but I am still heartbroken about losing that match.”
Sneijder never came close to the individual award again, while Messi would go onto claim more than any player in history.
Messi won the Ballon d'Or for the eight time last month – beating Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to the prestigious award.
