Draper spills the beans on Murray giving the middle finger for boozy singalong

Jack Draper has opened up on his boozy car ride home with Andy Murray following the recent Davis Cup. In a video posted by Murray, the 21-year-old can be seen singing with a can of beer in his hand while the world No 41 gives Draper the middle finger while driving them back from Manchester. But Draper revealed that Murray actually gave his music a strong rating after listening to it for four hours.

Britain booked a spot in the Final 8 of the Davis Cup last weekend as their group stage tie against France went down to the wire. Dan Evans and Neal Skupski defeated France in a final set tiebreak as Murray and Draper cheered them from the sidelines while wearing pink bucket hats.

They kept the celebrations going after leaving Manchester and heading home as the three-time Grand Slam champion gave his young countryman a lift home. But Murray didn’t look too amused in videos shared by both men that showed Draper drinking beer and singing along to music in the car.

The British No 5 has now opened up on their car ride and the likely reason Murray showed him the middle finger during a rendition of The Proclaimers. “I got a lift back with Andy from the Davis Cup. I’d maybe had a few drinks. He was in the car. Some of the tunes I was picking out, maybe he wasn’t enjoying my singing,” Draper told the LTA.

The 21-year-old also admitted that his younger self would be in disbelief watching the footage of his boozy ride home as he has grown up idolising Murray. He added: “We have a great relationship. I have the utmost respect for Andy, watching him when I was younger. He’s my idol.

“So to be in the car journey home with him on the way back from the Davis Cup and seeing this now. Like, if I was seeing this when I was 10 I’d probably be a bit shocked by what’s going on.”

Despite Murray’s lack of enthusiasm in the videos shared on social media, Draper admitted that the world No 41 got a relatively high rating for his music taste. “He actually gave my music seven and a half out of 10 for the whole four hours. So for him, he’s a tough man to please, I’m pretty, pretty happy with that,” he laughed.

In a second video that Draper posted, the world No 105 is still wearing his bucket hat while singing Giggs’ verse in the Drake song KMT. And Murray also recently addressed the hilarious drive home, saying: “Jack had a few before we left and took more in the car with him. So I obviously had to drive whilst listening to this very loud music and it was like one or two in the morning as well so it wasn’t an easy ride.”
