Amrabat arrived at Old Trafford this summer on loan from Fiorentina after a move to Liverpool collapsed.

The 27-year-old midfielder made his debut after coming off the bench in the 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday and Erik ten Hag decided to hand the Morocco star his full debut on Tuesday as United beat Crystal Palace 3-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Eyebrows were raised when Amrabat appeared to be deployed as a left-back, but it soon became clear that he was given a free role and often drifted into midfield.

โ€˜I told the manager, I will play where you need me, where the team needs me, even as a goalkeeper!โ€™ Amrabat told Sky Sports about playing at left-back.

โ€˜I will play anywhere where I can help the team. Today it was left-back but I had a free role and I played a lot in the midfield. It was nice, it was good.

โ€˜I like to have the ball always. Of course Iโ€™m not a [natural] left-back but I try to give the team extra options. Today it was okay.

โ€˜Of course I am a midfielder and I prefer to play in midfield. But I will play wherever I am needed.โ€™

Speaking more generally about his first start for United, Amrabat added: โ€˜I think it was a perfect night and we played very well.

โ€˜Since I was a child I worked for this. Itโ€™s amazing to play here, the stadium is full on a Tuesday, it is fantastic.โ€™
