Man Utd transfer confirmed as Fred leaks Bayindir move before £20m deal

Football Digest: Analysing Man Utd's failed recruitment

Manchester United have seen their newest transfer confirmed after Fred, who left the club this summer, leaked the signing of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. The stopper has completed his medical on Monday and is set to complete a £4.3million move to Old Trafford, but the club are yet to officially announce the signing.

Fred, who became team-mates with Bayindir in Turkey, confirmed the 25-year-old’s arrival as he said: “I wished Altay Bayındır good luck when he left. He is going to join a great team. I suggested some neighbourhoods where he could live. I told him it was raining a lot. Altay will be very happy at Manchester United.”

The Turkey international will replace Dean Henderson as Erik ten Hag’s backup to Andre Onana, as Henderson was given permission to travel to Crystal Palace and complete a medical ahead of a transfer that would see him fetch the club £20million.

United will want to get a deal for Bayindir finalised quickly in order to involve him in training before featuring on the bench for the Red Devils’ trip to Arsenal on Sunday, as a precaution should Onana be unavailable for the game or suffer an injury throughout.
