Man Utd got their season back on track with Burnley victory | Football Digest
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s availability crisis looks to have worsened ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third-round clash against Crystal Palace. Sergio Reguilon, who withdrew during United’s win at Burnley on Saturday, was reportedly absent as the squad arrived at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils host Palace as they launch their Carabao Cup defence seven months after lifting Ten Hag’s maiden trophy at Wembley Stadium.
But the Dutchman may have to select a weakened side again amid a selection nightmare that has contributed to his side’s tumultuous start to the season.
Harry Maguire and Mason Mount were spotted arriving at Old Trafford on Tuesday, signalling returns against Palace after spells on the sidelines.
However, Reguilon, who has started three consecutive games since his deadline-day arrival on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, reportedly wasn’t with the squad.
The Spaniard allegedly missed training on Monday and, therefore, looks set to miss out against Palace, leaving Ten Hag with a dilemma.
He joins Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as Ten Hag’s unavailable left-backs during an unprecedented situation that has made his job almost impossible in the opening stages of the campaign.

Reguilon withdrew during the Burnley win, after which the United boss claimed it was due to an illness he decided to play through.
“Reguilon was ill. That tells something about character and spirit they want to show,” Ten Hag told TNT Sports.
“He was ill but wanted to play, wanted to support and contribute for the team.”
United’s absent trio of left-backs join Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Amad out of contention. Raphael Varane could return to the starting line-up on Tuesday.
Donny van de Beek featured in a United squad for the first time this season in the 1-0 triumph at Burnley but also wasn’t seen arriving at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot is the obvious choice to fill in at left-back in Reguilon’s absence, but that would leave Ten Hag longing for a solution on the right.
Victor Lindelof could cover if Varane is fit to start. That could result in a second successive start for Jonny Evans after his impressive display against Burnley or a rare opportunity for Harry Maguire.
Ten Hag has also hailed Sofyan Amrabat’s versatility, which could see the Moroccan midfielder make his full United debut on the defensive flanks.
A win against Palace to book the Red Devils’ spot in the fourth round would add to the triumph at Turf Moor in helping turn the season around.
