Man Utd star Rasmus Hojlund makes declaration after debut against Arsenal

Erik ten Hag previews Arsenal v Man Utd clash

Rasmus Hojlund has pledged to ‘bounce back’ with the rest of his Manchester United team-mates after a disappointing afternoon at the Emirates Stadium. Last-gasp goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus decided the contest in Arsenal’s favour, ending Hojlund’s debut on a sour note.

United briefly held the lead in north London after Marcus Rashford’s powerful strike past Aaron Ramsdale. It lasted just over a minute, as Martin Odegaard kick-started the hosts’ comeback, which was finished off with two goals in stoppage time.

Hojlund had to make do with a spot on the bench after recovering from a back injury. United fans were desperate to see the striker in action after his £72million move from Atalanta, and they got their wish with half an hour to play.

Although the Dane was unable to produce the goods, flashes of his pace and power in behind will have given supporters something to look forward to after the international break.

And Hojlund will be keen to make a splash once Erik ten Hag throws him in from the start, writing on Instagram after the game: “So proud to make my debut for Manchester United.

“The dream became a reality [heart emoji]. Unlucky with the result today… but we will bounce back after the international break. Now to focus on Denmark.”

Hojlund’s transition to international action could see him return to Old Trafford full of confidence in two weeks’ time. The 20-year-old has scored six goals in six games for Denmark, who face Germany and Wales over the coming days.

Anthony Martial, who was picked to start up front at the Emirates, had a relatively quiet game until he was replaced by Hojlund. But Ten Hag made a point to praise both forwards after the final whistle, keeping fans guessing as to who will get the nod once domestic action resumes.

“I think Hojlund played very well,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “But also Anthony Martial – a very good performance. I was very pleased and I thought Hojlund had a good impact on the game.

“We have to improve [to be title challengers], definitely. But you see that we can beat everyone. It was such small margins today that it could have also been our side. It’s that close.”
