Inside Mason Greenwood to Getafe as Man Utd star enjoys luxury treatment

Jadon Sancho to train away from Man Utd squad until ‘discipline issue’ resolved

Mason Greenwood has spent two weeks settling into life at new loan club Getafe. Manchester United have sent the striker to Spain in an attempt to help their academy graduate kickstart his career after charges of attempted rape, coercive control and assault were dropped six months ago.

Express Sport rounds up how Greenwood has been adapting at the La Liga club.

Greenwood’s mood

Greenwood has reportedly been left surprised by how well his move has been received in Spain. A warm welcome greeted the one-cap England international upon his unveiling, with fans chanting his name and donning ‘Greenwood 12’ shirts.

It is claimed that he has been taken into the Getafe squad with open arms. His partner has struck up a relationship with the rest of the wives and girlfriends.

A source close to the Daily Mail was quoted as saying: “For Mason and his family it has been a breath of fresh air. For a long time, his life in Manchester was restricted to his house. In Spain, he can go to the supermarket and the restaurant and if people recognise him they are warm towards him.

“The fear he had in the UK is not there anymore. It’s early, but he can’t believe how well it has gone so far.”

Perks

The on-loan forward has already dined with Getafe president Angel Torres in Spain. In addition, United are reportedly forking out for a range of benefits to ensure Greenwood settles into life at his new club.

GOAL reports that the Red Devils are paying for Greenwood’s accommodation. The Premier League is also paying for a translator to be available 24/7 and for friends and family to make regular visits.

Luxury pad

Alongside paying more than half of Greenwood’s salary during his time in Madrid, United will reportedly fork out £8,000 per month for a six-bedroom villa. According to the Sun, the pad is close to Getafe’s training ground.

Greenwood’s dad, Andrew, is also believed to have made the trip to Spain to ensure his son has a strong support network.

Record shirt sales

Greenwood has broken records before making his debut for his new club. Not only did 4,000 people turn up to his unveiling, but he has been a popular name for fans wanting to buy the club’s merchandise.

It has been widely claimed in Spain that more ‘Greenwood 12’ shirts were sold in his first week than any other player in the club’s history.
