Kai Havertz was lucky to remain on the pitch when he launched into a wild tackle on Sean Longstaff on Saturday evening.

Newcastle United and Arsenal's clash was already threatning to simmer over, when Havertz flew off his feet to clatter into Longstaff. St James' Park erupted, all demanding to see the German given his marching orders.

Newcastle players immediately surrounded Havertz, with the pushing and shoving that ensued seeing three Newcastle players booked – including Longstaff. Gary Neville, who was on co-commentary for Sky Sports, said: "Well what is he doing?

Guimeares could then have picked up his second yellow of the afternoon, when he booted the ball at Jorginho a couple of minutes later and then sprinted over to Declan Rice.

Boos rang around St James' Park when the first half was brought to a close – with both sets of fans convinced the other side should be down a man.
