Ex-Man Utd ace Ravel Morrison caught using dead person’s blue badge

Former Manchester United and West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison has been heavily fined after being caught using a dead person’s blue parking badge. The 30-year-old, who currently plays for D.C United, was ordered to pay £1,908 after being convicted of fraud.

Manchester Evening News reports that a council parking warden saw Morrison’s car parked in Castlefield in May last year. When the parking warden checked the legitimacy of the blue badge they found that its owner had died the previous year.

When interviewed under caution Morrison, who played for Derby County during the 2021/22 season, said he had bought the badge from ‘someone in Old Trafford.’ The midfielder pleaded guilty at Manchester Magistrates Court to a count of fraud.

Morrison, who gave a Warrington address, was fined £1,000 for the offence, ordered to pay £508.32 in costs and a victim surcharge of £400. A spokesman for Manchester City Council said: “This ruling shows that the law is applicable to everyone, with no exceptions.

“I am grateful for the diligent work of our investigating officers as well as legal counsel who were able to successfully prosecute this case. Our officers patrol the streets daily to ensure that Blue Badges are used legitimately, and we will not hesitate to take action if we discover people trying to circumvent the law.”

Despite playing for England age group sides Morrison made his senior international debut for Jamaica and has made 18 appearances scoring two goals. The attacking midfielder has struggled to make a single club his home clocking up 11 sides in 11 years earlier in his career.

Morrison was tipped for great things at United and was part of their 2011 FA Youth Cup winning side alongside Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard. He had already made his senior debut during the 2010 League Cup.

After signing for West Ham in 2012 on a three-a-half-year deal he made 18 appearances for the Hammers and was loaned out to the likes of Birmingham City, QPR and Cardiff City. Spells at Lazio, Ostersund, ADO Den Haag and Derby County followed before playing last season in America.
