‘Cold’ goalscorer takes shirt off to celebrate – before he even found the net

Confidence clearly wasn't in short supply for Georgian prospect Tornike Akhvlediani after he helped his team end a seven-game winless streak this weekend.

Relegation-threatened Samtredia made the trip to Dila in Georgia's Erovnuli Liga sat some 27 points behind their hosts at kick-off. However, the underdogs came up trumps with a 3-1 win despite a late comeback effort from Dila, who could yet make a run at the top-flight title.

But those hopes suffered a significant blow following Saturday's defeat at Tengiz Burjanadze Stadium. And the home fans had to watch as one of their guests lorded it over them before he'd even put the ball in the back of the net.

With his side already leading 2-1 in the 94th minute, Akhvlediani sprang clear of the Dila defence with seconds remaining. One-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, the 24-year-old got the vital touch to open up the goal in acres of space.

Rarely has one's maiden goal for a club looked so assured, with Akhvlediani having joined on a free transfer from Torpedo Kutaisi in July. And the summer signing didn't need a second invitation to make the most of his moment.

Bearing down on goal with nothing but grass in between, the No10 whipped off his jersey at the edge of the 18-yard box. Travelling fans will be glad his touch was assured given the embarrassment at stake had he slipped up while doing so.

Not content with just the shirt reveal, Akhvlediani rounded off the performance with a knee slide to the corner. Team-mates quickly surrounded the star to join in the celebrations, and even Samtredia's goalkeeper made the trip to the opposite net to revel in the sealing strike.

There are far worse ways to mark opening one's account for a new club, with Akhvlediani having failed to do so in his first four outings.

"That's cold," remarked one social media user taken aback by the display.

"Would be funny if the play got stopped to give him a yellow before he scored," remarked another spectator who wasn't quite as bowled over. "Show off."

It was no surprise to see the striker shown a yellow card for his troubles after exposing his blue under-vest to the crowd. But the former Dinamo Tbilisi prospect will undoubtedly say his shining moment was worth the punishment.

Samtredia still find themselves in the relegation play-off places midway through the campaign in Georgia's top flight. However, they're now just five points from potential safety and could have a new hero emerging in Akhvlediani.

His strike settled just the second time in 24 outings so far this season that his new club have managed to score three in a single match. Samtredia are now three games unbeaten after he joined their ranks this summer, but his viral exploits may put a target on his back as opposition defences seek to prevent any future shenanigans in front of goal.
