The Rugby World Cup kicked off on Friday night with a packed Stade de France watching on as two of the favourites collided.

Hosts France handed the nation the result it craved as they opened their campaign with a 27-13 victory over rivals New Zealand in Paris.

It was the All Blacks’ first pool-phase defeat in World Cup history and they could have few complaints.

Sportsmail’s rugby experts Chris Foy and and Nik Simon were there to capture the pre match build up and offered their post match verdict.

Meanwhile, Alex Bywater reports from Bordeaux as Wales and Ireland get set for their openers against Fiji and Romania respectively.
