Venus Williams plotting tennis comeback aged 42

Venus Williams got tennis fans talking as she opened up on making her return to the tennis court. In a recent Q&A session with her fans on Instagram, the 42-year-old provided a career update since taking a step back from the sport.

The seven-time Grand Slam winner was asked about her journey to recovery following an injury suffered at the 2023 ABS Classic. After being forced to withdraw from the Australian Open due to a hamstring injury, the American tennis legend has been recovering ever since.

Delving into the effort she is putting in on and off the court to make the comeback possible, Williams was asked by a fan when she will be returning. She revealed: “Hopefully soon my friend. Working my hardest to get back.”

With trick shots a huge part of the modern day game, with Nick Kyrgios and Alexander Bublik leading by example, Williams was also asked if she will implement them into her game.

Fans, however, shouldn’t hold their breath as Williams shot down the idea, as she affirmed: “No I never spent time learning those trick shots. It’s too late now. I don’t have the patience now.”

Fans were also keen to find out if the former world No 1 trains her biceps – and she immediately shot down the need to. She added: “It’s really not necessary for tennis. However, just for good looking arms, it’s a must.

“I have been spending so much time doing my rehab for my hamstring I haven’t had time to worry about it my biceps growing. I will get to it later.”

The four-time Olympic gold medalist will, undoubtably, go down in history as one of the greatest athletes of all time. The American star is the older sister of Serena, with the duo seen as the most fearsome doubles act of all time.

Venus, along with her seven singles major titles, has also won 14 women’s doubles majors, all partnering Serena, with the duo unbeaten in Grand Slam doubles finals.

Between 1998 and 2020, the sisters met a staggering 31 times in professional tournaments, with Serena leading their head-to-head 19-12. Over the course of their decorated careers, Venus would go on to win 49 singles titles, with Serena claiming a whopping 73.
