World’s first musical trophy to be won at Cheltenham Festival 2020

Bookmakers Paddy Power can be relied upon to do something out of the ordinary on the run-up to Cheltenham- and this year they have crafted the world's first musical trophy.

The carousel design will be presented to the connections of their sponsored race and the feature on day three, the £325,000 Stayers' Hurdle.

Last year the three-mile contest was won by Paisley Park and he is a hot favourite to score again.

The trophy, which spins around to the sound of "You are my sunshine," features six of the best multiple winners of the race and its predecessor contest.

They are Big Buck's, Inglis Drever, Baracouda, Galmoy, Crimson Embers and Silver Bay.

Paul Mallon, Paddy Power's head of brand marketing for horse racing and Ireland, said: "The trophy is innovative in its design by being both moving and musical while it also celebrates the rich heritage of the race by featuring six of its best winners.

"I extend my best wishes to connections of all contenders for the 2020 Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle and am sure we will have a very worthy winner next Thursday."

The trophy design was conceived in-house by Paddy Power staff and created by Designworks in Windsor, previously known for their work on the 2018 Commonwealth Games batons.

In the event of Paisley Park repeating his 2019 success, a special braille plaque will be added to the trophy in tribute to owner Andrew Gemmell who has been blind since birth.
