Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s card on the Sandown Hillside track.
ZIAVERA (R8 No.10 – $2.30)
Ziavera got a bit further back than usual when charging home for a close second last time. She’s drawn a better gate this time and will be harder to hold out.
UPSWING (R3 No.2 – $6)
Upswing did his best work late when not far from the in-form Just As Soon last time. He’s capable of racing closer in a race of little speed on Wednesday and should be thereabouts.
FLASH FLOOD (R4 No.4 – $3.80)
Showed plenty of ability last time in and has been gelded since. He finished well to win a Caulfield jumpout leading up to this and should go close fresh.

PUCKAPUNYAL (R7 No.1 – $13)
The Lindsey Smith-trained Puckapunyal wasn’t disgraced on the synthetic first-up, but the key will be the step up to 1300m second-up. Expecting her to improve significantly.
The top jockey has five rides at Sandown but four of them are well fancied to give him a decent midweek haul. BAGLIONI (R1 No.1 – $3.50), SAPPHIRE CROWN (R2 No.5 – $2.70), MR BRIGHTSIDE (R5 No.5 – $2.10), GABEIRA (R7 No.13 – $19), ZIAVERA (R8 No.10 – $2.30).
THE WEEK AHEAD
Sale hosts Thursday’s Victorian meeting. Geelong will be the scene of Friday’s card while Caulfield holds Saturday’s PB Lawrence Stakes meeting. Wodonga also races on Saturday. Coleraine and Cranbourne both race on Sunday. The circuit heads back to the synthetic track at Ballarat on Monday.
