Perry misses training, in doubt for crunch game

Superstar all-rounder Ellyse Perry missed training on Sunday, raising further doubts over her availability for Australia's crucial World Cup game against New Zealand.

The Australians will wait until the last minute on Monday before making a call on Perry, who is nursing a hip injury. She was the only member of Australia's 15-woman squad not to take part in the optional session at the Junction Oval.

Her absence would force Australia into a marked change in game plan having earmarked the high pace of Perry and Tayla Vlaeminck to play a key part in the title defence. Vlaeminck was ruled out on the eve of the tournament with a foot injury.

Seam bowling all-rounder Delissa Kimmince and spinner Molly Strano, a last-minute inclusion in the squad for Vlaeminck, are the main contenders if a replacement is needed for Perry while there are doubts over Sophie Molineux.

"It would change the dynamic of the team when you lose a world-class player like that," Lanning said.

"I said at the start of the tournament we have 15 players who I felt could play a role at any point and that hasn't changed.

"If Ellyse is unable to play we feel we have people who can come in, play a role and do really well."

Australia must defeat their trans-Tasman neighbours if they are to progress to the semi-finals.
