Mr Quickie ruled out of spring carnival after stable accident

Dual Group 1 winner Mr Quickie will not have a chance to add to that tally in the spring.

The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper will spend the next few months recovering from an injury sustained in a stable accident in NSW.

Mr Quickie had finished spelling and pre-training at the property where staff were preparing the gelding to return to Stokes’ Pakenham stable when disaster struck.

“He was in the box ready to come back to Melbourne and he tried to sniff the horse next door and he slipped,” Stokes told

“It was just a simple accident.”

Stokes said Mr Quickie remained at the NSW farm while starting his recovery.

“We’ve been speaking to the farm where’s he’s at up in New South Wales and he’s comfortable,” Stokes said.

“We probably won’t see him for six months.

“Hopefully, he’ll be making a full recovery.”

Mr Quickie has won 11 of 30 starts, including the 2019 Queensland Derby and last year’s Toorak Handicap at Group 1 level.
