Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of Wilfried Zaha and could make him his first signing upon a return to Tottenham. That is according to Spurs’ former head of elite identification and player development David Webb, who worked alongside the Argentine in north London.
Pochettino is heavily linked with a return to Tottenham. Spurs are considering sacking Antonio Conte following last weekend’s post-match rant after the 3-3 draw at Southampton.
Conte’s contract expires in the summer but chairman Daniel Levy is weighing up whether to cut ties now with the Italian. Julian Nagelsmann could hold talks with Spurs after being sacked by Bayern Munich but Pochettino would be the favourite to replace Conte if he were to leave.
The 51-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain last summer. Webb, who discovered a 10-year-old Zaha playing for Whitehorse Wanderers in Croydon, says Pochettino likes the Crystal Palace star and a move across London could be possible.

Speaking to The Sun, Webb said: “[Zaha’s] had good offers from abroad like Saudi Arabia but I think his ideal one would be to test himself in the Premier League at a higher club. Poch was a big fan of his.
“I still think he’s attractive for a couple of years because he’s still got great attributes for the Premier League.” Zaha is out of contract at Palace in the summer but turns 31 later this year.
He has made 454 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles, scoring 89 goals. But he has been unable to agree on a renewal to his current deal.

Meanwhile, Webb believes Spurs will ultimately part ways with Conte at some point in the next few months. He claims Pochettino would prefer to manage in England next and says a return to Spurs is an option he could be open to.
Webb added: “I think Spurs will change coach. I don’t know the ins and outs of how fractured Poch’s relationship is with Daniel.
“And I don’t think that Poch wants to pigeon-hole himself solely to the Premier League. If a good offer were to come up in Spain or Germany, he’d be open to that, too.
“But the Premier League will always be his first choice. He was phenomenal at Tottenham – and would be open to it again.”
