William Saliba could be about to sign a contract extension at Arsenal despite failing to make a competitive appearance for the club since his 2019 arrival.

The central defender, now 21, joined the club from Saint-Etienne where he returned on loan before spells with Nice and Marseille – before finally impressing Mikel Arteta.

With the Spaniard insisting that the France international is now ready to compete in the Premier League with two years left on his current deal – agent Djibril Niang has travelled to London.

Posting an Instagram story of the menu at the Nobu Hotel in London, Gunners fans may well get excited about the prospect of Saliba staying in the first-team on a long term basis.

Journalist Freddie Paxton recently reported that Saliba had agreed a new deal with the club after positive talks ahead of the US tour – in which he has impressed his manager.

Saliba played the full fixture as Arsenal demolished London rivals Chelsea in Florida Cup on Saturday evening (July 23) – with Gabriel Jesus also starring.

"He looked ready to me today," Arteta said of Saliba after their 4-0 victory.

"We will keep developing him, he has a huge potential, he is already a top player and we have to make him even better."

Although it looked like Saliba may never get his chance to impress in the Premier League for Arsenal, a string of positive comments from Arteta promise the opposite.

Arteta also spoke fondly about Saliba after Arsenal's 3-1 win over Orlando City by saying: "We always have a plan, and when we have to execute, that's a different story.

"Football is a really funny game, but we are really happy to have him.

"You can see the way he's adapted, the way he's matured, and he's playing well, and we are delighted to have him."
