Why Chelsea are confident of beating Real Madrid to Kai Havertz transfer

Chelsea are reportedly optimistic about fending off interest from Real Madrid in the race to sign Kai Havertz as the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder wants a move to the Premier League.

Madrid have joined the Blues, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and United in registering an interest for the 20-year-old who has been on fire in the Bundesliga this season.

However, according to The Sun, Frank Lampard’s side remain in pole position to sign the promising midfielder after a lodging a bid of around £70 million earlier this week.

Bayern were previously touted as his most likely destination, but the report states that Havertz is keen on a move to an English club over remaining in Germany.

Despite the youngster looking set to leave this summer, Leverkusen chief Rudi Voller insisted the club have not yet given up hope on keeping their star player.

‘We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us,’ Voller told ARD.

‘We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities.

‘He did an outstanding job in the second half of the season.’

Havertz would represent another top acquisition in Chelsea’s raid of the Bundesliga’s top talents.

The Blues look set to complete the signing of RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner after reportedly agreeing terms with the striker.
