Where Man Utd stand on Adrien Rabiot transfer amid Juventus uncertainty

Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Juventus star Adrien Rabiot this season and are interested in signing the midfielder at the end of the campaign, according to reports. The France international was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer. But, on that occasion, he ultimately decided to join the Serie A titans instead.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could sign a new midfielder this summer, with Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford still up in the air.

So far speculation has backed them to sign the likes of Jude Bellingham and Jack Grealish, who have enjoyed positive campaigns with Birmingham and Aston Villa respectively.

But Tutto Mercato Web claim that United are interested in signing Rabiot and are pushing to land the midfielder this summer.

It’s claimed that they have sent scouts to watch the Frenchman in action, particularly in the Champions League.

And, even though Rabiot has endured a mixed season in Turin, he appears to be of interest to Solskjaer as he eyes reinforcements.

Rabiot won’t be easy to sign, however.

  • Why Man Utd star Anthony Martial has frustrated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Before the coronavirus brought football to a crashing halt the midfielder had shown signs of turning things around, emerging as a key player under Maurizio Sarri.

And United are not the only Premier League side interested in snapping up the 25-year-old – although no teams are specifically mentioned.

Arsenal have been interested in Rabiot in the past, with interest dating back to when Arsene Wenger ruled the roost in north London.

And so too have Tottenham. Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Rabiot and knows his side require more if they’re to improve next season.

Meanwhile, Juventus star Juan Cuadrado has been forced to apologise for comments made about Rabiot.

  • Barcelona star Dembele talking to Martial about Man Utd transfer

He recently compared the Frenchman to Andrea Fortunato, who tragically passed away 25 years ago on April 25, 1995.

Juventus posted a picture of Fortunato on Instagram and, in the comments section, Cuadrado tagged his team-mate in the past and said: “Rabiot, it’s you!”

However, his decision to do that sparked a strong backlash and the words were later deleted.

And, afterwards, the Colombia international apologised.

“I take this opportunity to apologize to all the Juventus fans for the post I commented on,” he said.

“I only saw the photo without reading what had happened: I just looked and I thought I saw Rabiot. Sorry.”

Rabiot previously outlined a desire to stay put at Juventus, despite interest from United and other Premier League clubs.

“Yes, I will stay with Juventus for sure. There is no problem,” he said.

“I feel the confidence of the club and of coach Sarri. 2019 was not easy for me, I came to Juve after a long time without playing.

“I’m looking to adapt to a new league, a new environment and a new coach.

“I hope 2020 will be better for me and be able to help Juventus by exploiting my full potential.”

As well as Rabiot, other United targets include Grealish, Bellingham and Jadon Sancho.
