It’s been 55 long years that England have had to wait since being in the final of a major tournament but the wait is finally over after the side made its first ever European Championship final.
As the fans singing “Football’s coming home” in unison reverberated around Wembley, the nation has not been this close to silverware since winning the 1966 World Cup — which is also its last final.
But standing in England’s way is Italy, who haven’t lost on the international stage in 33 matches with 14 straight wins on their way to the final as the side looks to win its second European Championship and first since 1968.

England and Italy have met 27 times in international football, with the first time in 1933.
But recently they haven’t played much, with the last game in 2018 and the last two games — both international friendlies — ending in 1-all draws.
Italy have won 11 of the clashes over the years, England eight, while there have been eight draws.
The good — or bad thing if you’re team ends up on the losing side — is that there will be a winner in this clash to decide who lifts the silverware.
