Manchester United have told Barcelona they want to be kept informed about Antoine Griezmann’s situation at the club because they are keen on signing an attacker in the next window, claims transfer expert Ian McGarry. Barcelona are reportedly willing to sell Griezmann less than 12 months after he joined the club from Atletico Madrid.
The France World Cup winner has scored just eight goals in his first 26 La Liga appearances for the Nou Camp club.
United wanted to sign Griezmann in the past and are once again linked with his signature.
McGarry claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign a forward to play alongside Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
So United want to be kept informed over any development in Griezmann’s potential exit from Barca.

McGarry said on the Transfer Window podcast: “I am told that Manchester United are aware of Griezmann’s situation and are actively in the market if you like, or certainly informed Barcelona that they want to be kept informed going forward because they are looking for a third player to add to the trio if you like, with starters next season almost certainly going to be Martial and Rashford.
“Griezmann could play on the right, he could play on the left, he could play through the centre.
“So a player who could add a lot to that attacking triumvirate.
“So United are certainly being kept informed by Barcelona on this.”

- Man Utd chiefs think they can get ‘serious bargain’ when window opens
McGarry says there are three reasons why Barca want to sell Griezmann, including Lionel Messi’s and his team-mates’ opinion on the 29-year-old.
He added: “Reasons for this are as follows. A – as we’ve just said, his performances have not matched the level that Barcelona expected him to do.
“Secondly, he’s not believed to be a particularly good influence in the dressing room.
“He is egotistical and selfish in some things we’re told and that’s not gone down well with team ethic, which has existed for so long at Camp Nou, as well as of course the little maestro himself Lionel Messi, who disregards him as a valuable team-mate.

“Third, and certainly by no means one of the insignificant reasons, Barcelona are in financial trouble.
“We reported this on the podcast earlier this week.
“Huge debts to service, huge wage bill they want to cut, very, very poor recruitment compared to performances in the last 18 months to two years.”
