West Ham have announced the signing of Nikola Vlasic on deadline day with a decision already reportedly made on whether they will continue to pursue Jesse Lingard. The Croatia international joins from Russian club CSKA Moscow on a five-year contract.
The deal is reportedly worth £25.72million with another £7.7m in potential add-ons.
Vlasic comes with bags of experience despite being just 23 years of age having already played more than 250 senior matches.
He’s also established at international level having made 26 caps for Croatia and played his part for his country at Euro 2020.
West Ham state on their website that Vlasic was ‘extensively scouted’ throughout the summer transfer window.
He’s also described as a ‘creative attacker’, although it isn’t confirmed where Vlasic will play for his new club.
In Russia, Vlasic has shown his versaility in playing across the front line as he’s played on the right wing while also being deployed in midfield.
That same versaility has been on display for his country, although Vlasic often starts on the wing for Croatia.
But West Ham seem unlikely to follow Vlasic’s transfer with a move to bring Lingard back to the London Stadium.
Manchester United insider Jonathan Shrager claims that Lingard wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford.
And he adds that West Ham will ‘not be making a last minute attempt’ to sign the England international.
Speaking last month, Moyes admitted that he would love to bring Lingard back to West Ham.
“We really enjoyed having Jesse, but Jesse’s a Manchester United player,” Moyes said.
“The questions are not for me, the questions are for Manchester United.
“If the opportunity arose for us to get Jesse we’d have an interest but in my mind he’s at Manchester United and it’s not for us to discuss.”
The arrival of Vlasic though takes West Ham’s spending for the summer over £50m after signing Kurt Zouma at the weekend.
Craig Dawson signed on a permanent basis from Watford earlier in the window while Alphonse Areole joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
