United's staff 'urge Erik ten Hag to stick by Marcus Rashford'

Erik ten Hag ‘is urged to stick by Marcus Rashford’ despite his poor form under Ralf Rangnick as the new Man United boss ‘seeks a new striker to partner Cristiano Ronaldo next season’

  • Marcus Rashford’s future at United remains up in the air given his current form
  • In-coming boss Erik ten Hag is looking to cut around 10 players from the squad
  • The Manchester United staff have urged Ten Hag to maintain faith in Rashford
  • They say he has what it takes to excel at Old Trafford if he is supported properly
  • Liverpool and Barca are said to be interested in signing Rashford this summer

The staff at Manchester United have told in-coming manager, Erik ten Hag, that he must keep faith in out-of-form Marcus Rashford ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign.

Rashford has had a season to forget, having struggled to cement a regular place in Ralf Rangnick’s first XI after returning from his shoulder surgery in October 2021.

Rashford has managed just four Premier League goals in 25 appearances this season – leaving Ten Hag questioning whether the 24-year-old is the right fit for his squad.

Ten Hag will watch Manchester United’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Following the game, the Dutch manager will begin his clear out at the club as he prepares for a fresh start at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is expected to cut 10 players from the United squad but the current coaching staff have urged the 52-year-old to keep hold of Rashford, according to The Sun.

The staff at Old Trafford believe Rashford has what it takes to excel at Manchester United and that his future at the club could be bright if he is given the right support.

However, Ten Hag is eager to find a striker that will complement Cristiano Ronaldo next season and remains unsure as to whether Rashford can fulfil the role. If needs be, Ten Hag will look outside the current United squad to source the right player.

Therefore, Rashford will need to rediscover his form… and quickly as this season has provided his worst goal return since breaking into the first XI in the 2015-2016 campaign.

The England international has only found the back of the net four times in the Premier League this season. While his previous two seasons saw his score 22 and 21 goals respectively.

Additionally, Rashford has fallen down the pecking order in the Three Lions squad. He was left out of Gareth Southgate’s side for March’s international friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

Therefore, his place in the England team for the Qatar World Cup in November has come under threat. Rashford will need to play consistently at the start of the 2022-2023 Premier League season to be in was a chance of clawing back a spot on the plane.

The Manchester United staff members feel incoming manager, Ten Hag, should be the one to give him that opportunity.

However, Rashford does have other potential suitors if the Dutch manager rules the 24-year-old out of his plans for next season.

Liverpool and Barcelona among the clubs said to be interested in signing Rashford during the summer transfer window.
