United remain keen on Trippier, ‘positive’ Pogba talks, Varane to sign next week

Manchester United have been continuing their summer business in an attempt to close the gap to rivals Manchester City and are close to completing their third signing of the summer.

Raphael Varane will join Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho as a new addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad and the United boss may not be done there.

The Red Devils remain interested in a deal for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier after cooling their interest in signing a new central midfielder.

Meanwhile, the United boss has confirmed positive talks have taken place with Paul Pogba amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Trippier remains a target

United remain keen on signing Kieran Trippier this summer but remain apart in negotiations with Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish champions are refusing to lower their asking price for the England right-back and will only allow him to leave if the £34million release clause in his contract is met.

United, however, are currently only prepared to offer £18million for the 30-year-old which is currently holding up the transfer.

Trippier wants a return to the Premier League this summer and Old Trafford is his preferred destination, having described it as a 'dream move' earlier in the summer.

Varane deal to be completed next week

The signing of French centre-back Raphael Varane is set to be completed by the middle of next week after he has undergone his medical.

Varane landed in Manchester on Thursday night and will now quarantine in line with UK Covid guidelines before beginning his medical.

Once the medical is completed, United are expected to announce the completion of the deal for an initial £34million, rising to £42million with add-ons.

The French World Cup winner arrives after a decade with Real Madrid, where he won 18 trophies and made a total of 360 appearances.

Solksjaer confirms 'positive' Pogba talks

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that he has had positive discussions with Paul Pogba since the midfielder returned to training earlier this week.

"Paul has come back and he's fresh and he's always such a positive boy. The talks I've had with him have all been positive," confirmed the United boss.

Pogba's contract is up at the end of the coming season and United are believed to be prepared to allow him to leave for a fee of £50million if a new deal is not agreed.

French side Paris Saint-Germain have maintained an interest throughout the summer but no official bid has yet been made.

Pogba is reportedly excited by United's transfer business this summer as they have made marquee signings in the shape of Jadon Sancho and soon Raphael Varane.
