Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings is on the radar of Manchester United as they hunt a top-class centre-half.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to strengthen his backline for the 2021/22 season.

Victor Lindelof has been plagued by an ongoing back injury, while Eric Bailly also has long-term fitness concerns.

A permanent reliable partner for captain Harry Maguire is desired.

And for United to mount a genuine title charge next term, Mings could make the difference with the England star on a list of targets for the role.

Alongside 27-year-old Mings, ESPN say Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Braga’s David Carmo are also being tracked.

Kounde, 22, and Carmo, 21, would be far more inexperienced recruits if brought in to support Maguire.

But the pair are highly rated, while French World Cup winner Varane has a proven record at the top level, both for club and country.

Mings, however, has shown he can cope with even the best Premier League strikers.

At Villa Park, the former Bournemouth man has developed his game, with coach John Terry able to offer advice and guidance at the training ground.

Adding Mings to their ranks would see United’s first-choice backline consist entirely of Englishman too.

Maguire and Mings may well be in England’s defence at Euro 2020 this summer, where Solskjaer would get an even closer look at how the pair’s partnership could develop.
