Tottenham are keen to land Lautaro Martinez this summer as they look to rebuild their squad under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo. With Spurs facing a battle to keep Harry Kane at the club, they are targeting the Inter Milan forward as a replacement for their star striker.

Spurs face a battle to secure Martinez’s signature, with north London rivals Arsenal also being linked to the player.

And Inter will be reluctant to sell at all if they lose Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea this summer.

Lukaku, who notched 24 league goals last season, has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks and new Inter boss Simone Inzaghi will not want to lose two sources of goals in one transfer window.

But Inter are in need of money and may be willing to cash in on both players if the price is right.

Martinez had a stellar season in Italy last time out and racked up an impressive 17 league goals and ten assists as Inter stormed to the Serie A title.

He went on to star for Argentina this summer as his country lifted the Copa America trophy for the first time this century.

The 23-year-old bagged three goals during the tournament and scored a penalty in Argentina’s semi-final shootout victory over Columbia.

Martinez is thought to be keen on a move to England and wants to join Tottenham to link up with international team-mates Christian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso, according to

Spurs announced the signing of Atalanta centre-back Romero on Friday evening in a deal thought to be worth £47million.

The 23-year-old was also part of this summer’s Copa America-winning side, starting the final as Argentina defeated Brazil.

Meanwhile, Lo Celso struggled for gametime with Spurs last season and missed part of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

But he, too, was in Argentina’s squad this summer, starting five games during their winning run.

Lo Celso will be looking to secure a starting berth under Nuno and may raise his game to the next level if he were to play alongside his international team-mate.

Nuno has remained tight-lipped on any deal to bring Martinez to the capital. “I will not speak about any player,” he said after Spurs’ pre-season friendly victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

“I will speak only about my Tottenham players – Spurs players, nothing else. Thank you.”

Spurs defeated Arsenal 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Son Heung-min scoring the only goal of the game.
