Paul Merson shares his views on Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham’s next manager Ange Postecoglou has five key problems to fix in his first week in the job as he prepares for a busy summer. The transfer window re-opens next Wednesday (June 14) and Postecoglou needs to repair relationships after a turbulent time for the club.
Top on Postecoglou’s list of priorities will be to convince Harry Kane to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for at least another season. Spurs’ chief Daniel Levy reportedly wants a huge transfer fee of £200million for their star striker who scored 30 Premier League goals last season despite his side’s struggles.
Manchester United have shown their interest in the England international as Erik Ten Hag looks to boost their forward line for the forthcoming season. Real Madrid have also emerged as another suitor and could offer Kane a way out of Tottenham without having to play against his boyhood club in the Premier League next season.
Kane is entering the final year of his contract at Tottenham and could be persuaded to stay and have greater transfer options next summer. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is set to leave the club this summer after being offered a huge contract in Saudi Arabia giving Postecoglou another problem to solve.
With just one-year left on his contract Spurs are expected to cash-in on the 36-year-old goalkeeper leaving Postecoglou searching for a new number one goalkeeper. Everton and England shot stopper Jordan Pickford could be one option for Postecoglou to consider, but the Toffees may demand £40million for the international.
With Lloris seemingly set to leave Tottenham this summer Postecoglou will also have to appoint a new captain, which could be used as a carrot to tempt Kane to stay. The England striker would be the natural selection to be the next Spurs skipper, but defenders Eric Dier and Ben Davies are alternatives.

With the transfer window about to open Postecoglou will have to pick his top targets for the summer. James Maddison has been widely tipped to leave relegated Leicester City this summer and could be a favourite for the new boss.
Defender Max Kilman could be another potential target with the 26-year-old helping to secure Wolves’ Premier League safety last season. Postecoglou also has the problem of to fending off London rivals Fulham for the signing of Manor Solomon who is able to leave Shakhtar Donetsk on a free transfer this summer.
