Manchester United 's hunt for a central defender seems never-ending.
Ever since Harry Maguire steamrolled his way into the Old Trafford starting XI with his £80m move, the Red Devils have constantly been linked with finding the former Leicester man a long-term partner.
Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly continue to play alongside Maguire these days.
But is the next transfer window going to be the one where United finally splash out on another world class central defender?
Here are three players that have been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League heavyweights in the past few years, that may finally end up at Old Trafford this summer.
In the summer of 2020, Italian outlet FCInterNews reported United had enquired, along with Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
Back then, the player was said to feel 'lukewarm' about a move to United, with an Inter stay his ideal scenario.
But Inter chief Piero Ausilio has previously spoken out about Skriniar and his future, hinting he was a player that could be moved on.
“Skriniar is a player we have made the right investment for," he said.
"He has been with us for three years and has done very well.
"Recently, maybe, he played less but we will continue to count on him as there are no negotiations ongoing regarding him."
Another player regularly linked with a Premier League switch is Raphael Varane.
Following his £10m move from Lens, Varane has made 350 appearances for Real Madrid.
He previously attracted interest from former United boss Jose Mourinho, who was key to the Frenchman progressing up the ranks in the Spanish capital during his time managing the club.
And AS report Madrid have dropped their previous €500m (£433m) price tag – despite Zinedine Zidane being keen to keep the defender.
"It's not just me [who wants to keep him]," Zidane said.
"He is part of this club, we were very lucky to be able to bring him to Madrid."

But United could move for another defender from Madrid's squad.
Eder Militao was also wanted by the Red Devils when Mourinho was in charge, before he swapped Porto for the La Liga giants.
Militao's release clause back then stood at €42.5m (£38.2m) and United were leading the way in the race for his signature at one point.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo reported back in 2019 that Mourinho's scouts were in attendance as Porto beat Nacional 3-1 at home – with Militao playing.
The Brazilian has only made four league appearances for Madrid this season.
