FIFA 23 is out in just over a week's time, and fans are now even more excited for release date after EA SPORTS confirmed Ted Lasso's AFC Richmond will be a playable team within the game.
AFC Richmond has become an iconic fictional football team after the success of the award-winning Apple TV series Ted Lasso, and as a result EA have decided to include them in FIFA 23. Users will be able to take control of the club across multiple game modes, including Career Mode, Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons.
FIFA 23 players will be able to use Lasso as a manager of AFC Richmond, or even put him in the hot seat for any real team within Career Mode should they so wish. But Lasso and Richmond may also feature in their more popular game modes, with kits and tifos set to become available in Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs.

Fans had been teased for some time after Ted Lasso's official Twitter account tweeted a picture of multiple cameras that have become synonymous with making FIFA so realistic over the years. And the picture was captioned with: "Look out, Mario! You're not the only pixelated man with a moustache who never knows where the tube is taking him."
And EA SPORTS replied to the tweet with an eyes emoji, teasing fans that a collaboration could be on the cards. But now the news has been confirmed, and it's been well received by fans.
"I would learn FIFA for this," one Lasso fan said, who is clearly not familiar with the popular football game. And another novice agreed, as they added: "I don’t play video games ever but now I want this. The power of Lasso."

"Fair enough, you’ve done something good for once," one savage fan conceded upon hearing the news. "Might actually consider buying the game sooner," another convinced player said.
And the actor that plays Lasso is perhaps the happiest of them all, as Emmy award-winner Jason Sudeikis admitted to being a long-term lover of the popular football game. "I am truly fortunate and deeply grateful, to have had many special moments in my career thus far, and I consider this experience among the best of them.
"As long-time fans of EA SPORTS FIFA, having Ted Lasso and the whole AFC Richmond squad incorporated into the newest version of the game is truly a dream come true for myself and the rest of the fellas. Our cast and crew work tremendously hard on this show, and we are flattered that it resonates with so many folks. We look forward to our fans having the opportunity to play with, play as, and even play against their favourite AFC Richmond characters."
