Super agent Jorge Mendes has home and Gestifute offices searched by authorities

Super agent Jorge Mendes has had his home and offices of his company Gestifute searched by Portuguese tax authorities amid an ongoing investigation dubbed 'operation offside'.

Mendes looks after a host of big names in world football, including Jose Mourinho, Cristiano Ronaldo , and several Wolves stars.

As reported by Portuguese publication Sabado , a number of properties connected to the 54-year-old have been searched, as well as some elite clubs.

Offices in Porto and Lisbon from which Mendes works have been examined as part of the search, while Ronaldo's lawyer Carlos Osorio de Castro and ex-Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas are also believed to be under inspection.

Portuguese Super Liga clubs Porto, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Braga have all also been visited by the authorities.

The investigation is believed to centre around the image rights of players.

Footage emerged of officials arriving at some of the properties under investigation, namely Mendes' home, as part of Sabado's coverage on Wednesday.

Sabado suggest Porto president Pinto da Costa and Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira are also among those targeted.

The authorities are attempting to seize documents that are both digital and on paper, which could prove useful in their investigation into what Sabado describes as "qualified tax fraud and money laundering".

Gestifute's confidential documents were leaked by hacking website Football Leaks in 2016, and the investigation has seemingly come off the back of related allegations.

Mendes has his fingers in many pies in the world of football, and has played a key role in Wolves' rise back to the top.
