Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told that now is the perfect time to make Dean Henderson Manchester United's No 1.
The Norwegian has been dealing with a difficult situation as he attempts to keep the upcoming Henderson and established first choice David de Gea both happy.
Since 2011 the Spaniard has been United's No 1 and never had to fend off a challenge from a deputy.
But his drop off in form over the past two years coupled with Henderson's rapid rise has provoked the debate.
Henderson has England ambitions and could push for a srarting spot at this summer's European Championships were he playing regularly.
De Gea stood in his way however, that was until he hobbled off injured on Sunday.
Henderson came on at half-time to make his first Premier League appearance for United.
And Michael Owen, who spent three years at Old Trafford, believes the cards have fallen perfectly for Solskjaer to make the switch.
“If you are thinking about changing the goalkeeper, this is the time," the former Red Devils striker told Premier League TV.
“I don’t think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants confrontation, I don’t think he wants to drop him.
“But in this situation, all of a sudden, ‘hey, you went off injured and he has done nothing wrong’.
“It is the perfect opportunity. If he had any of those thoughts over the last few months when mistakes were made, now is your time.”
Henderson enjoyed two excellent years away at Sheffield United but was bought back to Manchester.
Solskjaer has hailed the goalkeeper as a long-term United star for the future.
The 23-year-old may now get a run in the team however just as speculation was mounting that he would seek a loan move away in order to pursue with international ambitions.
