Sky Bet have had to shell out hundreds of thousands of pounds to ambitious punters after Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton grabbed his 20th goal of the season.
The 22-year-old scored Rovers' winner against Barnsley on Wednesday night as Tony Mowbray's side joined second-placed Fulham on 45 points in the Championship table.
Brereton's goal serves as the perfect Christmas present for the club's supporters, but hundreds of them have even more reason to celebrate.
As it turns out, Sky Bet gave odds of 1000/1 – and later 500/1 – on Brereton scoring 20 league goals this season back in August – and many fans thought they'd have a punt.
According to Lancashire Live reporter Jaquob Crooke, more than 300 people – mostly from around the Blackburn area unsurprisingly, took the bet.
The largest stake was £20, which could've potentially seen a £20,000 return!
Sky Bet even offered odds of around the 150/1 mark for the Rovers forward to finish as the division's top scorer, though his goal count is currently two shy of Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic's.
The odds of the striker netting 40 goals before the end of the season are now priced at 28/1. Seems Sky Bet have learned their lesson, though it's not as if their initial pessimism was ill-placed.
Brereton scored just seven times in 43 matches last season, and only managed to score twice goals during the two season prior to that.

He signed for Blackburn from Nottingham Forest in 2019 for £7 million following a somewhat underwhelming loan spell.
After scoring just once in his debut season, the move looked like a total bust. My how things change.
Brereton's form has seen him emerge as a target for a number of Premier League sides, and also earned him a call up to the Chilean national side, who he qualifies to play for through his father.
He's scored three times during his nine appearances for Chile, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Bravo.
