Sergio Ramos has reportedly informed his Real Madrid teammates of his next move having brought to an end his lengthy stay in the Spanish capital. Ramos’ departure from Los Blancos was announced last week, with the 35-year-old departing the club after 16 years at the Bernabeu.

A whole host of top European clubs have been linked with a transfer for the experienced central defender, including Manchester United, Manchester City, PSG and Juventus.

United have been listed as strong favourites to secure the services of Ramos, despite also targeting fellow Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, but look set to miss out on the four-time Champions League winner.

According to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Ramos has told three of his Real Madrid teammates that he is heading to PSG this summer.

The report claims that Ramos has accepted an offer from the Ligue 1 outfit, turning down proposals from other clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea.

PSG missed out on the league title to Lille last season and struggled to replace the presence in the heart of defence that Thiago Silva brought to the team.

The Brazilian defender joined Chelsea last summer on a free transfer and helped the Blues reach the FA Cup final and win the Champions League.

Ramos gave an emotional farewell speech alongside Madrid club president Florentino Perez and broke down in tears when addressing the media.

Despite bringing his association with the club to an end, the Spaniard admitted that he will forever remain invested in Los Blancos.

“This is a see you soon more than a goodbye,” he said.

“Sooner or later, I will be back. And I will always keep Madrid in my heart.”

Speculation surrounding Ramos’ future had been building in recent months, having failed to agree fresh terms with the club.

But he has now shed light on why a new deal was not approved, making clear that his intention was to remain a Madrid player.

“I’ve never wanted to leave,” said Ramos.

“The club offered me one year, with a drop in salary. I wanted two years, not for the money, for continuity for me and my family. The economic issue was never a problem.

“Then I decided to accept the offer that I thought was on the table, of one year, but I was told that the offer wasn’t there anymore.

“They told my agent that the offer had expired a week ago. The truth is I don’t know why the offer expired; I can’t answer that. There was a negotiation and maybe I misunderstood.”
