Ruthless fans rule out Takumi Minamino’s future with Liverpool after friendly

Ruthless fans are casting doubt over Takumi Minamino's future at Liverpool after the midfielder put in a below-par performance during the club's mini-pre-season game with FC Wacker Innsbruck.

Minamino moved to Anfield from Red Bull Salzburg in 2020 but has failed to nail down a first-team place and last season was sent on-loan to Southampton, where he scored two goals in ten appearances.

His impressive performances on the south coast led some to believe he could work his way into Jurgen Klopp's plans, but others now believe that is unlikely after his showing on Tuesday evening.

The 26-year-old started the first of Liverpool's back-to-back 30 minute pre-season games, lining up alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Divock Origi as the Reds took on Wacker Innsbruck.

Supporters were left unimpressed with the Japan international's performance, with some suggesting 16-year-old academy star Kaide Gordon had a better game.

One fan said: "Minamino is just ruining it man, respectfully just get off the pitch."

Another added: "Minamino just isn’t Liverpool standard, stop trying to convince yourself he’s good enough."

A fourth chimed in with: "If you actually rate Takumi Minamino and think he has a future here, your standards are in the bin."

While someone else commented: "16 years old Kaide Gordon has performs better than Takumi Minamino."

Liverpool drew the match 1-1 after Origi's opener was cancelled out by Innsbruck player Ronivaldo.

Minamino's future, meanwhile, remains up in the air.

The midfielder is set to be given a chance in pre-season, although it is understood the Reds are open to offers for the star.

Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhutl has expressed his desire to retain Minamino for the upcoming coming, but that will need to be on a permanent deal as Liverpool are not willing to sanction another loan move.
