Ruben Dias is to receive a huge pay rise at Manchester City following his brilliant first season with the club.
The Portuguese central defender, 24, only signed a six-year contract this time last year when he arrived from Benfica in a £61million transfer.
But having helped Pep Guardiola’s side to both the Premier League title and League Cup in 2020-21, Dias is now set to almost double his money as reward for his outstanding displays.
Currently on £80,000-a-week, he will net a basic £140,000 every seven days should he agree to the improved terms on the table for him.
All of which will seal a quite remarkable opening 12 months on English shores.
In addition to the two domestic trophies bagged, Dias, capped 32 times by Portugal, was considered the crucial cog in City’s vastly-improved record-breaking defence.
Dias, who joined in October, made a total of 49 appearances in all competitions – with City keeping an astonishing 29 clean sheets when he was in the line-up
And that led to Dias completing a virtual clean sweep of the individual awards on offer last term.

Manchester City’s Player of the Season also picked up the prestigious FWA Player of the Year title and was named Premier League Player of the Season.
That’s why City are keen to recognise his extraordinary impact – and hand him a bumper wage increase so soon into his Etihad career.
With the club’s significant bonus scheme thrown in on top, Dias could earn more than £200,000 per week during the 2021-22 campaign.
