Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly slammed his team-mates during the halftime interval of Manchester United’s Champions League encounter with Atalanta.
The global superstar channelled his inner-Sir Alex Ferguson in the dressing room, reportedly giving the hairdryer treatment to his colleagues after they fell behind to goals from Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer acted as a mediator as the Portugal international let loose, according to SunSport, before the home side went back out for the second half and scored three goals in dramatic fashion to clinch the win.
A Red Devils source told The Sun: “Cristiano addressed the whole team and told them that the performance was unacceptable.
“He asked if they were not ashamed and said this was not how Manchester United perform in front of their own fans. He told them they needed to win the game and, if they didn’t, they might not qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.”
At this point, Solskjaer took over and said that the team could overturn the deficit if they collectivised and managed to get the first goal in the next half.
Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, informed the boss that the tactics needed to be changed up and that he should position himself deeper.
Can Man United turn around their tepid start to the season? Let us know in the comments section below.
Fernandes said via the Sun: “We have a lot to improve on and the coach also knows there has to be some improvement at their end but that is part of football.
“We fully support him. He’s our manager, we follow his ideas and believe in them. Of course, players start to get suspicious when they don’t play or when things don’t go well.
“But, honestly, footballers are annoying. We think we’re always right!
“His ideas might be right or wrong — but we are sticking with it until the end.”
