Romelu Lukaku has reportedly agreed terms on a five-year contract with Chelsea, worth around £212,000-a-week. The Belgian goal machine is now edging closer to sealing his return back to west London following his departure in 2014.

Lukaku didn’t even entertain the idea of leaving Inter Milan this summer until Chelsea made their interest known in the past week or so.

The Blues had been targeting Erling Haaland before being priced out of a move, while enquiries have also been made with Robert Lewandowski’s entourage.

However, Thomas Tuchel is a huge admirer of Lukaku’s Premier League pedigree and his ability to play with his back to goal, as well as in behind.

Formal talks between Chelsea and Inter started earlier this week, when the European champions reportedly proposed around £85million plus Marcos Alonso.

Inter made it clear that would not be enough to satisfy their demands with Chelsea now preparing to offer £110m plus the Spaniard. claim Lukaku has already agreed terms with Chelsea, where he will sign a lucrative five-year deal.

All that is left to resolve in the final fee between the two clubs with negotiations now nearing a conclusion.

Inter are now expected to sell up after Lukaku himself made it known that he wanted to join Chelsea.

The 28-year-old’s agent Federico Pastorello has been bombarded with abuse on social media since trying to broker the move.

Last night, he replied to one of the trolls and claimed he would reveal the reasons why he was pushing for Lukaku to leave cash-strapped Inter.

“Thank you for your words,” he said. “You will be able to hear our reasons soon, whatever happens in the end.”

Tuchel refused to comment on Chelsea’s pursuit of Lukaku on Wednesday night following the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

“I will not talk about players who don’t play in my squad,” the former PSG boss said. “He is a fantastic player but a player from Inter and with all due respect I will not talk about him. Not everybody but I can imagine a lot of players want to come and join [Chelsea] but we don’t comment on that.”

Chelsea have already lost one striker this summer in the form of Olivier Giroud.

The World Cup winner has joined AC Milan, leaving the Blues with a small gap to plug in attack.

Tuchel also outlined his desire to replace the Frenchman with a player who can play with his back to goal, like Giroud.

“I think with the exit from Olivier Giroud from the type of players we could use a player used to playing with their back to goal, whose strength is to keep possession from long balls, so we can add this direct style of play to our portfolio,” Tuchel added.

“This is the characteristic of player that is not Tammy (Abraham), Timo (Werner) or Kai (Havertz) so this is a profile we don’t have in the squad and could be useful but not for any cost and not hectic or in panic.

“No matter what happens we will be competitive and have trust in our guys that we can still develop and that we have young players in the offensive part of the game who we demand that they need to improve. We are relaxed and very well aware of our situation at the same time.”
