Rivaldo believes Man City’s Kayky will be an ‘important player’ in two years

Brazilian legend Rivaldo is confident that new signing Kayky is set to become an important player for Manchester City over the next year or two.

The Premier League champions signed the winger from Fluminese for an initial fee of £9million this summer, where he had scored three goals in 32 senior appearances.

The Brazilian wonder-kid was set to arrive at City in January 2022 but Pep Guardiola’s side reached an agreement with Fluminese to let him leave for Manchester earlier.

And former Barcelona talisman and World Cup-winning hero Rivaldo has backed Kayky’s talent, though he is not expecting the player to feature in the first-team just yet.

Speaking to BetFair, Rivaldo said: "Young Brazilian winger Kayky, who has just joined Man City, has been praised highly in the Brazilian press.

"He can become a very good player in the future but moving to English football at just 18, he will be forced to go through an adaptation process and we shouldn't expect to see him play much for the first team just yet.

"Gabriel Jesus' presence could help the youngster and I'm confident that in a year or two he will become an important player in Pep Guardiola's team, contributing goals and assists."

The 18-year-old has been training with City since last Friday, having arrived at the club last week.

It is expected that Tuesday’s Carabao Cup game against Wycombe Wanderers comes too soon for Kayky even though he is eligible to play in all domestic competitions this season.

Guardiola also has the option of adding the teenager to his Champions League A-List squad in February.
