Rio Ferdinand opens up on positive Mike Phelan message about Man Utd team

Rio Ferdinand has opened up on the improvements at Manchester United, saying Mike Phelan is confident the squad has "started to click".

The Red Devils began the season in poor form and are three points outside the Champions League places as a result.

But in recent weeks United have looked a much better team, having convincingly beaten Derby, Club Brugge, Watford and Chelsea.

January signing Bruno Fernandes has spearheaded the resurgence, and the club are now on course to finish in the top four this season.

Former United defender Ferdinand spoke out about the Red Devils on BT Sport, while providing analysis on their 3-0 win over Derby in the FA Cup.

He opened up on a chat he had with United assistant boss Phelan, and on the improved atmosphere inside the Old Trafford dressing room.

"Listen, it's improved," said Ferdinand. "I was speaking to Mike Phelan, one of the coaching staff at Manchester United earlier, things are starting to click.

"They're starting to understand things and they've understood as a group that it wasn't going to be overnight where things are going to start working out.
