Rio Ferdinand thinks that Jude Bellingham will be having second thoughts over moving to Liverpool following their Champions League exit.
Liverpool were knocked out of the UCL by Real Madrid on Wednesday night after losing 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu courtesy of a late Karim Benzema goal.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were always likely to go out at the round of 16 after losing the first-leg of the tie 5-2, but in Madrid they looked extremely lacklustre and devoid of ideas.
It means they have failed to win a major trophy this season and now the best they can hope for is a top four finish in the Premier League which is no guarantee given their current form.
Liverpool fans are hoping that the club can have a productive summer transfer window to rejuvinate the squad, with England and Dortmund’s sensational midfielder Bellingham heavily linked with Anfield.
The 19-year-old has dropped hints in the past that Liverpool is his preferred destination should he leave Germany in the future but he has also been linked with other big clubs including Real.
And Manchester United legend Ferdinand believes that Bellingham will be having doubts over signing for Klopp and co. based on Wednesday’s game.
‘If Liverpool get Bellingham then Stevie [Gerrard] and yourselves [Michael Owen and Peter Crouch] will have swam the English Channel to get him,’ he said on BT Sport.
‘I just think that if he watched that tonight he must be thinking, ‘if Real Madrid and Liverpool are in for me, there’s only one place to go!”.
‘And they may not get Champions League next season. As a player, you look at it cold and I see more trophies here [Real].’
Fellow pundit Crouch did not disagree with Ferdinand, adding: ‘If you’re Jude Bellingham you’re sitting at home with your choice of clubs and Liverpool in transition at the moment may not be the right option for him.’
