Real Madrid shirt numbers Bellingham could wear with ‘transfer close’

England's Jude Bellingham chats to fan

Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of signing Jude Bellingham. The England international has been linked with a host of top clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City. However, now, a switch to the Bernabeu seems to be on the cards instead.

According to Marca, Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Bellingham in a move that will likely send shockwaves around world football.

The midfielder is reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with the La Liga giants as they look to bring in the teenager.

And Real are due to hold a meeting with Borussia Dortmund in the coming days, with Los Blancos appearing to have stolen a march on their rivals.

Bellingham is primed to join Real and be at the forefront of their plans for the future.

Express Sport now takes a look at the potential shirt numbers Bellingham could wear if, as expected, he moves to the Bernabeu come the end of the season.

Number 5

The No 5 is an iconic one over at Real Madrid.

It was worn by the legendary Zinedine Zidane, who won the lot as both player and manager, as well as being sported by Raphael Varane during his time at the club.

Jesus Vallejo is the current occupant but the 26-year-old is likely to be moved on in the foreseeable future, having never been a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Number 10

It seems unlikely, given Luka Modric is still at the club.

But with the midfielder yet to officially commit his future to Real, as the summer creeps closer, it would leave the No 10 vacant.

Bellingham could then feasibly take it on but he may have to be patient should Modric end up extending his stay with the club.

No 14

The No 14 was previously worn at Real Madrid by Casemiro, who left for Manchester United back in the summer.

And they’re yet to fill that shirt since seeing the Brazil international jump ship.

It has also been worn by greats of the club such as Guti and Xabi Alonso, with both players fondly remembered over in Spain.

No 19

There is an expectancy that, useful though Dani Ceballos can be, he’ll be shown the door by Real this summer.

The Spain international is likely to struggle for game time even more should Bellingham end up moving to Madrid.

And it would leave the No 19 vacant. Bellingham is 19 right now, so it could tempt the former Birmingham star.

No 22

The No 22 has been donned by Antonio Rudiger ever since the Germany international touched down from Chelsea at the end of last season.

But given it’s the number Bellingham has worn at both Birmingham and Borussia Dortmund, it’s possible it’ll change hands.

Rudiger could take a lower number to reflect his importance to Ancelotti’s side, which would then leave it free for Bellingham to take.

No 25

Eduardo Camavinga opted to take the No 12 last summer after the departure of Marcelo.

He had previously sported the No 25 and it’s free for Bellingham or any other potential new signings to take this summer.

Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo have also worn the digits on their back in recent years.

Other free shirt numbers

No 27 – Last worn by Antonio Blanco, while also previously being occupied by players such as Federico Valverde, Marcos Llorente and Martin Odegaard.

No 28 – Marvin Park was the previous occupant. Was worn by Iker Casillas at the start of his Bernabeu career.

No 29 – Alvaro Morata has sported it twice over the years, with Juanmi Latasa wearing it before joining Getafe on loan.

No 30 – Free at the current moment in time and not exactly in-demand over in Spain.
