Real Madrid have reduced their asking price for Manchester United target Raphael Varane and want a quick resolution to the saga, according to reports. Varane is out of contract at the end of next season and Real are desperate to not let him leave the club for nothing. United are the club most linked with the France defender, with Chelsea also reportedly keen.

Real have already signed David Alaba on a free transfer following his release from Bayern Munich.

That is because Los Blancos are preparing for the possible departures of both Varane and club captain Sergio Ramos.

Ramos looks set to leave the Bernabeu for nothing when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim Real are keen to not have a repeat of the Ramos case with Varane.

Real’s priority is to keep Varane but the player wants to leave.

Varane has rejected every contract renewal offer Real have issued him.

The Bernabeu club will therefore look to sell the 28-year-old and want to do a deal fast in order to bring in a replacement.

Recent reports have claimed Real would look to bring in around £60million (€70m) from the sale of Varane.

However, Mundo Deportivo now claims Real are prepared to let him go for £42.9m (€50m).

The news will come as a boost to United, who are plotting a big summer window.

The Red Devils want Varane to be the club’s long-term partner for captain Harry Maguire, and are prepared to pay him £10.3m (€12m) a year in wages.

However, they are also targeting major signings in other key areas.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is again heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford after a deal failed to materialise last summer.

Sancho’s England team-mate Harry Kane is also a target for United, so saving money on a deal for Varane would help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fulfil his transfer ambitions.

Varane was asked about his future ahead of this summer’s Euro 2020 tournament but he said he is fully focused on performing for France.

“This is not the time to talk about my future,” Varane said. “I am focused on the selection, on this Euro.

“It is normal and logical to ask the question, and for my part it is normal and logical to focus on the upcoming deadlines. We are all human beings. We can think about it.

“As for my personal case, I am focused on the objectives that we have in the France team, it is not a subject that I will discuss every day in my room at Clairefontaine.

“I am focused on my goal, and now is not the time to discuss it. If I have to talk about it, it will be directly with the people concerned.”
