Real Madrid club president Florentino Perez is the subject of leaked audio footage which exposes him slamming two of the greatest club legends to have played at the Bernabeu. Both Raul and Iker Casillas were labelled ‘great failures’ which is certain do go down badly among fans of Los Blancos.
When the comments were made to El Confidencial in 2006, Raul had racked up more than 500 appearances for Madrid, while Casillas had already notched 300 of his own.
Both men went on to play more than 700 times for Real, putting them first and second in the club’s all-time record appearance makers.
Perez said: “Casillas is not a goalkeeper for Real Madrid, what do you want me to tell you. He is not. He has never been.
“It has been the great failure we have had. What happens is that you have those who adore him, they talk to him, I don’t know.

“They defend him so much … Well, it is one of the great scams and the second is Raul.
“The two great Madrid scams are first Raúl and second Casillas.”
Calling Raul the biggest scam in Real’s history is virtually blasphemy on the terraces of the Bernabeu.
The Spaniard left the club in 2010 after a stellar 18-year spell in which he scored over 300 goals, a record which has only been overtaken by Cristiano Ronaldo since.

In his trophy cabinet lies three Champions League titles, four Spanish Super Cups and six La Liga crowns.
Casillas can boast a similar arsenal of silverware, leaving for Porto in 2015 having amassed a staggering 725 appearances in the Madrid goal.
The shocking recordings will only add to Perez’s image as one of the most infamous figures in world football.
The 74-year-old spearheaded the campaign to switch European football to a new format earlier in the year, with the football world widely condemning the proposed change to a European Super League.
In response to the publication of the audio, Perez released a statement through official Real Madrid channels, saying:
“Following the article published by El Confidencial that features comments that I have been credited as having made, I believe that it is important to clarify that:
“The published quotes were part of conversations secretly recorded by Mr José Antonio Abellán, who has been trying to sell the recordings for many years without any success. I find it surprising that they have been published today by El Confidencial, despite the time that has elapsed.
“They are isolated quotes that were part of conversations and have been taken out of the wider context in which they were made.
“I understand that the fact that they have been published now, so many years on from the time the conversations took place, owes to my involvement as one of the driving forces behind the Super League.
“I have placed the matter in the hands of my lawyers, who are examining the course of action to be taken.”
Perez continues to be a towering figure in Spanish football, having served as Real Madrid president on and off since the turn of the millennium.
It will be fascinating to see how fans respond to the latest comments which have surfaced, slamming two of the greatest club legends to have ever pulled on the club’s famous white shirt.
