Rangnick says only Man Utds goalkeeping department doesnt need any improving

Ralf Rangnick has named the only area of the Manchester United squad that does not currently need any improvement.

The Red Devils' interim manager is set to step into an advisor role at Old Trafford at the end of the season and will be on hand to assist the new permanent manager. It is expected that Erik ten Hag will be the man to replace Rangnick in the dugout ahead of next season, with a deal reportedly already agreed by the club and manager.

Ahead of Ten Hag's expected arrival, though, Rangnick has claimed the entire squad needs improving except from in goal.

Speaking to Sky Sports News ahead of Tuesday's clash with Liverpool, Rangnick explained: "It's not enough to bring in three or four new players. It will be more, bearing in mind how many players will no longer be here [out of contract].

"Apart from goalkeeping, we need to improve the squad in all areas."

United can currently call upon David de Gea and Dean Henderson between the sticks, whilst also having veterans Tom Heaton and Lee Grant to provide additional back-up support.

Henderson has been frustrated at his lack of opportunities in the league this season but United remain keen to keep hold of him and have slapped a large price tag on him to fend off interest in the 25-year-old.

As for out of contract players this summer, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are all set to become free agents at the end of the season.

In addition, Nemanja Matic recently announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season despite originally having another year left on his deal.

On player recruitment, Rangnick went on to add: "Of course it's important to know who will be the new manager to start the recruitment process.

"To find the best possible players, only makes sense if you know who will be the manager and how does he want to play".

United travel to Anfield to face title-chasing Liverpool on Tuesday night, having moved up into fifth spot with their win over Norwich City on Saturday in the race for a top four finish.
