A string of Premier League clubs had scouts in the crowd to watch Benfica’s Champions League tie with PSV amid growing interest in England Under 21 winger Noni Madueke.

Teenager Madueke has begun the season in blistering form, scoring five times in seven games and also setting up another goal for PSV.

Two of his strikes have helped his Dutch club to the brink of the Champions League group stages and into Wednesday night’s play off tie at Estadio da Luz, which Benfica edged 2-1.

Noni Madueke’s performances have attracted the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs

His former club Tottenham and long-term admirers Manchester United and Leicester all had representatives at the game.

They were joined by talent spotters from the likes of Juventus, Bayern, Roma and Atalanta who also had the chance to run the rule over Madueke, 19.

Madueke left Spurs in 2018 to join PSV and has since progressed through their youth setup to establish himself in the first-team and emerge as one of Europe’s most exciting youngsters.

Madueke made his England U21 debut during their 2-0 defeat by Portugal U21 earlier this year

He turned down an offer from United, among others, before opting for PSV. Sportsmail revealed in April that Leicester were one of the clubs keeping tabs on Madueke.

He has three years left on his current PSV contract and they want to keep him for at least another year though the outcome of next week’s second leg could play a part in his future
