PSG write to French Football Federation over Kylian Mbappe and Tokyo Olympics

PSG have written to the French Football Federation (FFF) to make it clear that Kylian Mbappe is not available for this summer's Olympics in Tokyo.

The Frenchman has been named in the provisional 80-man squad for the games but L'Equipe understand that PSG have taken issue with the FFF's decision.

They have expressed their views in writing and FFF president Noel Le Graet claims that the Ligue 1 champions do not want their top players participating in consecutive international tournaments.

Mbappe will be one of France's leading light for this summer's European Championships which will run throughout June and July – shortly before the Olympics.

But despite the 21-year-old's willingness to put himself forward for selection Le Graet has said, were he in PSG's shoes, that he may take a different view.

He said: "He wants to. Our coach (Sylvain Ripoll) is very keen. I would rather have him at the Olympics, especially for the image. He's a boy who's already at the top of his game. But I put myself in the place of PSG.

"They may not really want him to do all the competitions. But I don't think they would object. In terms of image, it would be complicated for them. And for us, complicated not to select him.

"Club presidents, in general, find that the dates are not good. That is how it is."

Mbappe has previously expressed a desire to play in the Olympics and admitted to having a fondness for the people of Japan, but he accepts the matter is not completely in his control.
